McKensi is an active volunteer of her community and the local state park. After high school she began participating in pageants winning local and state level awards. When she was awarded the title of Miss Southeast she was given the opportunity to represent Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College at the 88th annual Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival. This is one of Kentucky’s oldest running traditions. Being of a traditional Appalachian background, McKensi was inspired deeply and grew an interest in preserving Appalachian traditions at this time. McKensi has a love for oral history and advocates for older Appalachian heritage to be cherished. McKensi has brought much to her community through volunteership. She has played a part in hosting free or affordable events for the public and especially so during times of crisis like the pandemic and the Appalachian flood of 2022. McKensi also co-organized and helped fund a park dedication in honor of an outstanding member of the Harlan county community in 2020. McKensi is greatly attached to the community she serves and eager to see great progression for its people.
