About the event

The non-profit organization LiKEN Knowledge is holding free legal information sessions on Kentucky law related to estate planning, inheritance, and heirs’ property (i.e. property in heirship). Public interest attorney Joe Childers (Childers & Baxter PLLC) will give a presentation that will address the following questions:


  • Estate planning: Why is it important & how do you do it? What does a will do and not do?

  • Inheritance: What happens to property after the owner dies? What if the owner did not have a will?

  • Heirs’ property: What is it and how does it work? What can I do with property that is tied up in heirship? How can the heirs’ clear their title to the property and prove ownership?


LiKEN Program Director, Kevin Slovinsky, will speak about the Appalachian Heirs’ Property Center, LiKEN’s free assistance program for people who own heirs’ property in Eastern Kentucky.
