September 2020 Update
The CAFTA Final Report and Comprehensive Plan for this project are still under embargo, but stay tuned for their imminent release! Under contract with the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (MAAF), LiKEN worked with a gifted and dedicated field team of 10 folklorists and artists, to document folk and traditional arts in 112 Appalachian counties of OH, WV, and VA. In close collaboration with MAAF and a highly qualified regional advisory group of state folklorists, scholars, artists, and practitioners, we documented 566 artists or groups, 665 festivals or events, and 385 programs. We conducted interviews with hundreds of artists, entrepreneurs, small businesses, program and grassroots leaders, government officials, and others. Findings are summarized in the soon-to-be published report which will be accompanied by a Creative Commons photo gallery. Based on the findings of the Report, The Comprehensive Plan lays out recommendations for a large grant-making program to support folk and traditional arts in the region.
